Northern Athletics Club Ramsey Bakery Firemans Road Races - 11th March 2010

Last Thursday evening saw final round of the winter handicapped series with 56 athletes heading north to pound the streets of Ramsey. New comers took first place in both races, with David Chambers in the one lap and Judith Harrison in the three lap. Colin Crooks had a great run to finish 2nd and lower his pb by 44 seconds,  just hang by inches ahead of fastest lady on the night Mollie Canavan. James Bishop stepped down to the shorter distance and recorded the fastest time on the night at 10.07. In the three lap, it was good to see the return of Lyn Quine taking 2nd and outspinting hubby Dave no doubt after a little warm weather training looking at their tans.  The only athlete to dip under 30 mins was Anthony Bell-Scott  in 29.18 with fastest lady Rosy Craine.

The night finished with the prize presentation for the season at the Mitre Hotel by Mr Jimmy Duncan from Ramsey Bakery, the series sponsor. In the one lap race there were 21 who qualified for the league with the top honours going to new to the running scene Joanne Schade just ahead of her running partner Astsuko Senier with Kewin Kerruish one point adrift in third. The award for the fastest time of the year and a new course record went to Ryan Fairclough at 8.51 who hopefully will soon be back in action after his achilles injury. Gail Griffiths took the ladies award in 10.33.

The three lap race saw 37 qualify for the league with just one point separating the top two with the win going to a most deserving Robbie Lambden ahead of Peter Bradley and Alan Postlethwaite. Fastest and the course record went to Darren Bell with 27.58 and Nikki Boyde 31.18.
A new award of a specially designed T Shirt went to the 10 who ran every race in the series.
The NAC Chairman expressed thanks to every involved with the race series, Ramsey Bakery, The Ramsey Firemen, Rose, Judy and Elaine everyone who marshalled  and the Mitre Hotel.
